Agile Teams in SAFe
Agile teams are the basic building block of the Scaled Agile framework (SAFe). Agile Team is the first dimension of Team and Technical Agility competency in SAFe.
Agile teams are high performing, cross functional teams who apply and practice Agile principles effectively. Each Agile Team is a group of 5 to 11 people who define, build, test and deliver a value increment in the shortest sustainable time. Agile teams work in iteration and each iteration is typically 2 weeks long. This team has two specialized roles, Scrum Master and Product Owner.
Scrum Master acts as a coach for the Agile team. Scrum Master exhibit the traits of servant leadership. For Agile team Scrum Master is the one who removes impediments and fosters an environment for high performance, continuous flow and relentless improvement.
Now let’s talk about ProductOwner. Product Owner acts as the customer for the agile team. Product owner is the one who owns the team backlog. Team backlog consists of the stories and enablers. The product owner defines stories with team members and prioritizes the team backlog to streamline the execution of program priorities. Also accept the stories. He is the one who contributes to vision and roadmap.
Each agile team plans for a short time in future e.g. 2 weeks or a sprint or an iteration. They align with each other every day in a 15 min conversation known as daily standup or daily scrum. And after a regular interval they review the work done by them. I will talk about all this in more detail in my next article : Agile Team Events. Thanks for reading this article.
